During whale migration season (June-November) you might even catch a sight of a humpback or southern right whale. Ice creams at the end. 7KM 2HRS MEDIUM A refreshing ocean cliff-top walk. From Circular Quay take bus 380 to Clarke Reserve near the Macquarie Lighthouse. Then follow the marked trail to Raleigh Reserve Dover Heights where you can catch bus 380 back to Circular Quay or continue on to Bondi by foot. In whale season - June to November - keep an eye out for migrating whales. 3.5KM 2HRS EASY An interesting walk around Manly Reservoir. Another good training walk for those upcoming multi-day walks. 7KM 2-3HRS MEDIUM A walk through Sydney's history. Includes Wynyard Square, Observatory Hill, Lord Nelson and Hero of Waterloo Inns, churches, The Rocks and ending up at Circular Quay for a well-earned coffee. 5KM 2.5HRS EASY A great walk showing the green side of Sydney. Includes St James, St Marys, Hyde Park, Macquarie St, State Library NSW, Royal Botanic Gardens, Mrs Macquaries Point, Governtment House, Conservatorium of Music, Opera House and ending up at Circular Quay. 7KM 3HRS MEDIUM A new walk for Sydney. Starting at Bexley North Station the walk follow Cup and Saucer Creek to the Cooks River and then along Wolli Creek back to Bexley North Station. 13KM 5HRS MEDIUM These two historic walks will show you the best of Parramatta. West walk takes you to St Johns, then to Australias oldest colonial cemetery and Old Government House. The East walk takes you to Experiment Farm, Elizabeth Farm and Hambleton Cottage. 7KM 3HRS EASY 3KM 4HRS EASY This is a good bush training walk with some ups and downs (more ups). Once you leave Middle Harbour, follow the sign to Carlyle Road and then walk along the suburban streets back to Tryon Rd. 6KM 2HRS MEDIUM
Blue Mountains N.P. Ph: 02 4787 8877 A solid walk down from Perry's Lookdown, but well worth it. Take it easy on your way back! Twice up and down in a day is great training for the Himalaya, Kokoda or Kilimanjaro. 5KM 5HRS HARD This is a good overnight walk into the Grose Valley to visit the historic Blue Gum Forest. 20KM 2DAYS MEDIUM An historic walk, first discovered by Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson in 1813. William Cox cut the pass in 1814 as part of the Great Western Road ordered by Governor Lachlan Macquarie. Still shows the effort required to descend from the mountains. 7KMS 2.5HRS MEDIUM A walk along the cliffs, followed by a descent via the Giant Stairway to the Dardenelles Pass up to Honeymoon Lookout and return via the Federal Pass. Take the Scenic Railway back to the start. 10KM 4HRS MEDIUM An enjoyable walk with great views of the Canyon. The stairs at the beginning and end of this walk can be challenging. Enjoy the trees, ferns and pools at the bottom. 5KMS 3.5HRS MEDIUM Follow the track down to Empress Falls. Then walk to Inspiration Point and return to the Conservation Hut for a lunch break. Follow the Nature Trail back to the start. 6.5KM 3HRS MEDIUM Take water. Starting from the memorial to George Caley, follow the trail to the top. Great views. Return to carpark. 5KM 2.5HRS MEDIUM A good walk down from Narrowneck. Optional extra climb to the Ruined Castle. Camp at Mt Solitary and return to Narrowneck. 22KM 2 DAYS MEDIUM An opportunity to visit an ancient Aboriginal art site. Mostly beneath the shade of tall gums. Afterwards a coffee at one of Glenbrook's cafes. 8KM 3HRS MEDIUM A good loop walk in the central Blue Mountains. During wet weather take salt in case of leeches. 8KM 4HRS MEDIUM This heritage track follows the original route taken by late 19th century travellers from Katoomba to the Jenolan Caves. First nights camp at Coxs River camping area. Second nights camp at Black Range camping ground. Make sure you take enough water between Camp 1 and Camp 2. The walk down from the road to Jenolan is a pleasant change from all the uphill walking. Enjoy a night at Caves House. An ideal Blue Mountains day walk for anyone. Cascading waterfalls, birds, creeks and pools, beautiful ferns and bushland. The walk out is uphill on open tracks. 10KM 4.5HRS MEDIUM A popular Blue Mountains walk. Combining spectacular cliff trails, the famous Wentworth Falls and a historical trail favoured by Charles Darwin who explored the area in 1836. 8KM 3HRS MEDIUM In 1836 a local guide took Charles Darwin along this route to show him the magnificent falls at the edge of the escarpment. This is a gentle walk and afterwards you can enjoy coffee and cakes at one of Wentworth Falls cafes. 6KM 2.5HRS EASY This walk goes through the historic early ascent of the Blue Mountains. The Zig Zag is the route of the first trainline. There are two lookouts to visit, Elizabeths and Marges, as well as an optional diversion to the Lennox Bridge. 7KM 3HRS MEDIUM Yerranderie, about 100km from Oberon is an abandoned mining town. You can stay at the Lodge or camp. The Ghost walk takes you around the old mines and buildings of a previous era. Make sure you include the museum. There are lots of other walks in the area. 6.5KM 3HRS MEDIUM
Wollemi N.P. Ph: 02 4787 8877 This walk starts at the Wolgan River Road turn off about 40 km north of Lithgow. It takes in an old railway route, a glow worm tunnel and an old coach road in a setting of cliffs and canyons. 10KM 4HRS MEDIUM This walk in the Red Rocks area of Wollemi National Park passes through some of the most spectacular country in NSW. Take 3 litres of water per person. Best done in Autumn or Spring. Camp near the caves at the foot of Mt Dawson. 14KM 2DAYS M-HARD
| SYDNEY AREA WALKS Botany Bay N.P. Ph: 02 9668 9111 A great walk along the Kurnell Peninsula. Track has deviated due to Desalination plant, so some walking across loose sand required. It is also possible to start and end from Cape Solander car park. This option is 4km return, about an hours walk. You might even see migrating whales from Cape Solander. 8KM 2HRS EASY-MEDIUM This walk takes you along coastal cliffs, past an old cemetery, down to Cape Banks. Then to the beach at Cruwee Cove to the Endeavour Light at Henry Head. Follow the path back to Jennifer Street. Drive or walk to a Perouse and visit the museum and the Macquarie Watchtower. Coffee and then a walk over the wooden bridge to Bare Island. 6.5KM 2.5HRS MEDIUM This is a section of the Sydney Coastal Walk, promoted by Sydneys Coastal Councils. Bus 395 from Central to Maroubra Beach. Bus 393 from La Perouse to Central. A varied walk along the cliffs. 8.5KM 3HRS EASY
Brisbane Water N.P. Ph: 02 4320 4200 A good mix of coast and bush in this walk. 12KM 4HRS MEDIUM Starting from the carpark outside of Old Sydney Town (now closed), this is a solid day's walk which follows a section of the Great North Walk. 20KM 8HRS HARD
Dharug N.P. Ph: 02 4320 4200 A good half day walk which will give you glimpses of our colonial past and sections of the convict built Great North Road. Take the ferry to the northern river bank and start your walk there. 9KM 3HRS MEDIUM

Ku-ring-gai Chase N.P. Ph: 02 9472 8949 A good training walk for anyone preparing for a multi day walk in Australia or overseas. Make sure you have a look at the interesting Sphinx War Memorial. Take a well-earned rest at Bobbin Head and maybe buy an ice cream from the kiosk. 10KM 2.5HRS MEDIUM A good walk in Ku-ring-gai following a section of the Great North Walk. Fish and chips at Brooklyn before catching the train home. 11KM 4.5HRS MEDIUM Barrenjoey Lighthouse was completed in 1881. This area was considered to be the back door of Sydney for smugglers. Smugglers Track leading to the lighthouse was built by convict labour. Great views and a nice lunch spot. Return via the sands of Palm Beach. 5KM 2.5HRS MEDIUM Near the gate is a short track to an extensive Aboriginal engravings site. Follow the main track down to Elvina Bay. Visit Rocky Point before continuing on to the Frederick Oliver grave, turning left and follow the narrower path back to the start. 6KM 2.5HRS MEDIUM A good walk between two railway stations in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Follow the track down to Cowan Creek. Lots of views. Then the uphill trek to Berowra. 9KM 4HRS MEDIUM
Lane Cove N.P. Ph: 02 8448 0400 An interesting walk just behind suburbia. Begin and end at railway stations on the North Shore line. Lane Cove National Park is an oasis of green just near Sydney. The walk is a short section of the well-known Great North Walk. 10KM 3HRS MEDIUM

Take a break for lunch at Audley. 17KM 6HRS MEDIUM From Stanwell Park Station walk down to the beach and along the lagoon, then underneath the rail track and follow the track to a side track for a great lookout. Back to the main track and through rainforest to Stanwell Creek and the station. 6.6KM 3HRS MEDIUM
Sydney Harbour N.P. Ph: 02 9960 6266 A pleasant walk along Sydney's inner harbour coastline. Quite a few steps (mostly up). Lots of places for a rest or picnic. Reward of fish and chips, wine and coffee at Manly's cafe area. 10KM 3HRS MEDIUM A good walk for all the family. Good views of Sydney Harbour and the Heads. Visit Curlew Camp where a colony of artists lived and worked, near Sirius Cove. Bradleys Head is a good place for a picnic. 6.5KM 2HRS MEDIUM A fantastic coastal walk taking in all the sights from South Head to Maroubra. Beaches, rock cliffs, ice cream kiosks. Take the ferry from Circular Quay to Watsons Bay. From Maroubra take Bus 396 to Circular Quay or Bus 317 to Bondi Junction. 22KM 7HRS MEDIUM This walk takes you along Kurraba Point, Cremorne Point and Mosman Bay, showing the highlights of old Sydney waterside properties. Ferries run from Taronga Wharf to Circular Quay 7 days a week. 8.5KM 3HRS MEDIUM

Bungonia State Consv Area Ph: 02 4844 4341 (24 hr info line) A good walk through limestone gorge country. This walk takes you down to the Shoalhaven River and then to Bungonia Creek for the overnight camp (on the Shoalhaven River or within 200 metres of the Shoalhaven if on Bungonia Creek). Return to Long Point or continue to Bungonia SCA via White or Red tracks from the Bungonia Creek gorge (car shuffle required). 18KM 2DAYS M-HARD A great walk down into the limestone canyon carved out by Bungonia Creek. This walk involves a very steep descent to the floor of the Gorge, then along the creek. The Red Track may be impassable in wet weather. You can make it a full day's walk by following the creek down to the Shoalhaven River for a swim and lunch and return on the white coded track via Mt Ayre. 4KM 5HRS HARD

A walk across Australia s highest mountains with 360 degree views. Visit the summit of Mt Kosciuszko, Australias highest peak. Camping is not permitted near the resorts or in the catchment areas of the glacial lakes. 25KM 2 DAYS M-HARD A wonderful way for all walkers to reach Mount Kosciuszko is to take the Crackenback chairlift to the top station at 1965 m and then climb to the summit at 2228 m. 11KM 4HRS MEDIUM This walk can be done in one day, returning to Thredbo or Jindabyne. In winter, its a snowshoe trek, staying the first night near a kink in one of Bogong Rivers tributaries. The next day trek to Rams Head and after a good exploration return to "base camp". (info provided by Jana Harbach). 8KM 4HRS M-HARD Do not do this walk in bad weather. Take the Crakenback chairlift to the top. Track to Basin-T, Karels and then to a saddle where the track is more pronounced. A 4km descent to Dead Horse Gap following ski poles. Once at Thredbo River follow the walking track along the river to Thredbo. 10KM 5HRS M-HARD
Morton N.P. Ph: 02 4887 7270 This pleasant uphill track winds through forests of native trees. At the base of the summit there is a series of vertical metal ladders which leads you to the summit. Avoid these if you are acrophobic.The top has great views and is good for lunch. 6KM 3HRS MEDIUM A good walk along the east rim above Yarrunga Creek with plenty of birdlife, maybe even the elusive Lyrebird. 2.5KM 2HRS EASY This walk is reasonably demanding, although most of the walk is on tracks. Best done in cooler weather. Make sure you visit the Corang Arch, forest, pools and lagoons. 24KM 2 DAYS M-HARD Walk to Tooths Lookout and then descend the valley to Bandanoon Creek which is a good place for lunch. Walk back up and take the track to Fairy Bower Falls and along Nicholas Pass to the Amphitheatre. Return via Riverview Road. 6.5KM 3.5HRS MEDIUM From William St follow the track to Glow Worm Glen. Then to Buchanans Lookout. From here follow the cliff rim and a number of lookouts. Continue to the remains of machinery from the old coal mine. Return via same path to the carpark. 11KM 4.5HRS MEDIUM

Nadgee Nature Reserve Starting at the Ranger Station, follow the Merrica Walking Track, then turn right (South) along the Merrica River Track. Then past Tumbledown Mountain to Newtons Beach and then to Lake Nadgee. Great views. 24KM 7HRS MEDIUM
Warrumbungle N.P. Ph: 02 6825 4364 A good days walk up through a varied landscape in and around the rim of an ancient volcanic dome. Take water as there is none available along the trail. Route passes Bluff Mountain, The Breadknife and Belougarie Spire. 13KM 5HRS MEDIUM An invigorating two day walk through the Warrumbungle National Park, taking in all the major highlights including the summit of Mt Exmouth, Bluff Mountain, The Breadknife and Belougerie Spire.
