DESCRIPTION: The Overland Track is a great wilderness walk from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair, through a World Heritage Wilderness area. The 73 km walk takes six to seven days along a track which is well-maintained and clearly marked. Bushwalking. Some sections are quite steep. | THERE: From Launceston:120 km Transfer to Cradle Mountain Lodge. And Back: At Cynthia Bay, transfer to Derwent Bridge and return 160 km to Launceston. Tassielink runs bus services to/from Cradle Mt and Lake St Clair. A ferry runs services between Narcissus and Cynthia Bays on Lake St Clair. |
| FACILITIES: There are composting toilets at all hut sites. Take all your own food, tents and cooking equipment including fuel stoves in case the huts(First come, first served)are full. The Park In 1910 Gustav & Kate Weindorfer pushed for recognition of the area. In 1931 Bert Nichols blazed the Track and it was in use by 1935. | BEST TIME: December to March is the most popular time. Route direction North to South only. HOW HARD IS IT REALLY? Track is well maintained, easy to follow with a few muddy sections. The steepest climbs are those up to the Cradle Plateau and various side trips. Rated Medium |
