DESCRIPTION:
 
The trail is divided into 12 sections, each a 1-2 day walk, and includes some of the main attractions of the area, such as  Simpsons Gap, Ellery Creek Big Hole, Ormiston Gorge and Glen Helen.
 
THERE & BACK:
Commercial services (Alice Springs)will drop off and pickup from most points along the track.

FACILITIES:
Only some sites have toilets, BBQs and kiosks.
 
Take all your own tents and cooking equipment including fuel stoves as camp fires are not allowed.
 
BEST TIME:
April to October is the most popular time. Mt. Sonder to Alice is the preferred direction as you are walking away from the afternoon sun.
 
HOW HARD IS IT REALLY?
Track suitable for walkers who have walked before and have some bushwalking experience. There are a couple of hard sections.

FOOD:
Independent walkers must take all their own food.
 
WATER:
Water quality or quantity is not always reliable at water points. Carry sterilization tablets and extra water.
If  in doubt about the water quality see:

Hot and dry climate, gets cold at night.

 
 
TRACK FEES:
$6.50 overnight fee at most camping areas. Parks & Wildlife provide an Overnight Walker Registration Scheme to help you to have a safe walk.

At campsites with kiosks.
Staying Safe: 
Registration is voluntary and requires a refundable deposit of $50 person or $200 group. It Will ensure search and rescue begins if you do not deregister by 12.00 noon on day following your nominated day of completion. Full refund of deposit when you deregister.
