DESCRIPTION: Experienced and fit bushwalkers can discover the special beauty of Hinchinbrook Island on a 32km trail along the island’s east coast. Limits apply to the number of walkers allowed on the trail so you must book at least 12 months in advance for holidays. | THERE & BACK: Commercial water taxis from Cardwell and Dungeness (Lucinda) transfer campers and walkers to and from the island. |
| FACILITIES: Toilets and some picnic tables are provided. Take water and a fuel stove. A resort is located on the northern end of the island. Take all your own food, tents and cooking equipment including fuel stoves as camp fires are not encouraged. | BEST TIME: The cooler months, April to September are best for walking. Heavy rain can fall between December and April. Allow at least three days to complete the trail.
HOW HARD IS IT REALLY? Track is well marked, but requires a fair deal of work to traverse. Bring a tide chart as the creeks you cross can experience tidal changes of up to 4 m. |
